Colours

Every year, the people at Pantone tell us the colour of the year. I have no idea how they decide but designers and consumers will all supposedly be using, wearing, and buying it.
So this year's choice is Marsala -

Personally, I quite like it but I understand a lot of people don't. Maybe I like it because I quite like Marsala wine and have a favourite recipe Fresh Peaches Baked in Marsala with Mascarpone Cream

Also, does it make you think of Burberry? It's sort of in the background of their check.

We did a blog post back in September 2012 which featured a styled wedding based on Burberry - it was a fab shoot and there was quite a lot of burgundy/maroon/marsala. I'd had the images for a while but had wanted to see if they stood the test of time; they did then and they do now.

Another post we did was based on perceptions of colour. Getting colour right is one of the most difficult things we encounter because our vision of a colour, probably isn't yours. We had three brides last year who were very specific about the particular colour they wanted in their bouquets. Royal blue, purple and hot yellow. We got there in the end but I wonder if these were the colours you imagined?

These are two images of the same bouquet. One was taken indoors and one outside - what a difference the light makes!

We had to mix the varieties of rose in this bouquet. We managed to get some "hot" ones although after we did say that we would probably have been better to try and match to sunflower or daffodil yellow.

Incidentally, an easy way to "explain" the colour you have in mind is to get a paint chip from the local DIY shop, especially if they have the option to mix paint as you will have lots of shades of the same colour.

The National Wedding Show 2

The end of last week and the weekend were busy for us as we were exhibiting at the National Wedding Show. Putting a stand together is not an easy task - never too sure how much/little to display. In the end we went for simple - mostly wedding images with a few scenic posters showing some of the Ontario landscape.

We were lucky enough to meet some super visitors to the show and also to get some AMAZING enquiries covering venues as far apart as Toronto (VERY urban, edgy and up-to-the-minute) and Kenora (up in the NorthWest of Ontario, VERY rural, laid-back and really only accessible by prop or float plane). So quite diverse - we should have some fun doing all the research and scheduling.

These two locations will give you an idea of the scale of Ontario.

From Toronto to Kenora is 825 miles in a straight line

but to drive it's between 948 and 1031 miles

Fall 2013 seemed to be the most favoured time for weddings next year and I must admit, I love that time of year in Canada and the leaf colours make a stunning backdrop and even in the City, they add something.
These are a selection of my favourite Fall wedding images taken by some of our photography partners.

Wedding trend

Some wedding trends are so extravagant to be far our of reach of the non-celeb world whilst others are just too outlandish. So it's really great to be able to report on a trend that anyone can afford and adapt for themselves - colours.

This image is the most re-pinned image from all my boards. It is also an English wedding - seems we're sending a trend that way for a change!

So, what do you think? I LOVE it. All the bridesmaids look so comfortable obviously wearing their chosen colour. The groom played the game as well, with a fab Liberty print tie.

All pulled together through the bride's bouquet ...

and the balloons ...

Come fly with me !!!

If you'd like to see the rest of these images, take a look at the London Bride [where I originally found them] or at Jacqui McSweeney's photography website / blog. It really was a beautiful day from which anyone can take inspiration.
