Cold & comfortable

Let me explain the heading .... when you visit Canada you will find that the weather is more of a conversation topic than it is in the UK!!!! The daily temperature forecast is always given twice - daytime high and nightime low - and then again taking into account humidity [in the summer] and wind chill [in the winter]. I have learnt that there are also two colds -5, and -15. It's not really cold until -5 and it's really cold from -15 and below that. There is, however, a way of beating the cold and that's dressing for it. If your feet, head and hands are warm, the rest of you is warm. Honestly! Feet are critical cos you walk on cold, head is important because you loose body temperature through your head and the only positive about cold hands is that if you've got them, you're supposed to have a warm heart! So dressing feet, in particular, for the cold, being comfortable and looking good is the big issue for a winter wedding.

I don't know if you've come across Ruby & Ed - I only found them last Christmas when I bought my daughter a pair of mince pie slippers! They were fab. Anyway, I got their new brochure through for this Autumn/Winter and there is some footwear & accessories that fit right into the cold & comfortable dressing category.

To start with feet - I think these are great! They ARE outdoor boots and they have a lining that you can take out and wash. ON MY WISH LIST.

coupled with this trio - a muff, a collar and a headband

An alternative boot

and another headband or a trapper hat

All wrapped up warm and cosy! Fab!!

Rob Ryan - again

Earlier this month, I kept this Rob Ryan card back as I was going to need it. The baby in question has now arrived and his parents will be beginning understanding about the word 'adventure'. I don't know his Daddy but his Mummy is great and in her words "I'm not exactly the Mumsy type, but I am loving every waking second I spend with him, as he's made our lives just perfect." Isn't that lovely! His name is James so I sent through this clip of Sweet Baby James by James Taylor - he rambles a bit to start with but it makes sense when you listen to it all. And I just LOVE James Taylor. I bet Hannie was wondering how long it would be before he made an appearance on here!!!!!!

Wedding Coats

Winter is coming ..... Yeah!!!!!!!!!! We are a funny family. Most of us just love the autumn and winter : fall, halloween and SNOW which was the original wedding inspiration. "Experience The Magic - Your Wedding In The Snow..." which brings me neatly to today's topic. Wedding coats. I've always loved them. In fact, I wore one when we renewed our vows but I might just need to do it all again though so I could wear one of these

or this jacket has long been a favourite

However, I have now found Justine Horrocks - WOW!!!
I understand the Collection was inspired by her own wedding at an ice hotel and the fact that she couldn't find what she wanted. Well, thank heavens for that as it meant every other bride now has a choice. You'll really need to go to the website to see all the detail of the five designs but here are two.

Every wedding has one.

At least, it seems to me that every Marianne Taylor set of wedding photos has [at least] one stunning picture of hands

But then, there are also always unusual and/or beautiful pictures of the small people/persons.

and she always produces a magnificant portrait from the more senior generation.

Character

and Elegance! [If only I could match this]

You have no doubt worked out that I am a huge fan of Marianne's but is there any wonder? Check out her blog here

Still enjoying Ontario

This is a wonderful time of the year across here. The fall colours are beginning to come into their own and the landscape is a riot of green, yellow, gold and red.

It's also time for folk to start the decorating for Halloween so there are pumpkins a-plenty.

But to bridal matters.......
In my Inbox here today, I had an update from Brides.com with a report on New York fashion week and some wedding dresses. Here are my favourites.

From Derek Lam - an American designer not available in the UK as far as I can see, but oh, so sleek

then from Max Azria - again not available in the UK, but I'm sure you'll see the trend

then from Behnaz Sarafpour who lists Harvey Nicholls as a stockist

and last, but never least the UK's Jenny Packham - stunning as always!

Haven't really done a great deal of shopping this time. Have been busy looking at venues and really am waiting for the annual December trip to the city and the One of a Kind Show. Don't forget if you are interested, get in touch for details.

It's strange ....

that when you use a different google [.ca instead of .co.uk] you get different results even from the same words. So 'wedding blogs' on .ca opened a whole new world. But that's good. Just see what I have found.

Brenda's wedding blog where this bouquet caught my eye - a very unusual mix of colours and flowers

then Bridal Snob with offerings from a Romantic Cornfield Wedding then a huge contrast with The Collared Bride . HOW unique is this dress?

Then there was Ruffled - very interesting .... with a 1930's Ballroom Wedding where their idea was for the wedding not to be a vintage theme but to make it just as it would have been if you had attended a 1930's wedding. Beatiful dress and photos. I have a thing about hands in wedding photographs - they say a lot ......

Further into the blog, there is an engagement shoot and this is my favourite from those

And the entry ended with a City Chic Denver Elopment - fab shoes, fab dress, fab shots. Again my favourite - her look says it all.

Finally, I did find an old favourite - Style Me Pretty with the Saddlerock Ranch Wedding by Suthi Picotte + Amber Events

A beautiful bride, a handsome groom - but I think these little poppets stole the show?

Some thoughts for the weekend ......

TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED
- I particularly like No.10 but can't think why!

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats..

2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.

3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.

4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.

5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food..

6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair..

7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.

8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.

9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.

10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandma's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:

1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.

2) Wrinkles don't hurt.

3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts

4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground...

5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.

6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy..

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional...

2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.

3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.

4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions...

6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician

7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:
1) You believe in Santa Claus.

2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.

3) You are Santa Claus..

4) You look like Santa Claus.

Time, Flowers, Rob Ryan & Shopping

Gosh, I can't believe it's a week since I last put anything on here - how time flies. Mind you, there has been a bank holiday in between which always seems to throw the days off course,

Went up to Leeds yesterday. Had a lovely lunch in Napa. We ate inside because outside was almost full. Little wonder as it was a glorious lunchtime/afternoon.

From there went to Daisy Chain to get Hannah some flowers. They are such lovely people in there and we came away with a very interesting bunch of flowers - tried to keep away from berries and autumnal colours and made the most of what is left of summer! Pinks, purples, greens and cream

Look a bit weird here but in the vase, they look really good. Also I bought some cards .... a weakness because, except for one, I will NEVER send them to anyone. They are destined to be posted on here and then wait for the right frame to come along. Haven't posted the one I will send, I need it in about 2 weeks time. Once it's sent I will let you see it!

The cards are Rob Ryan by Roger la Borde - don't you just adore Rob Ryan? My daughter and her partner have a 'thing' about him which is how I got hooked. This one is my all time favourite

The words are

CAN

WE?

SHALL

WE?

ONE DAY

VERY

SOON. LET

US GO

AWAY

TOGETHER.

JUST

YOU AND

ME.

CAN WE?

SHALL

WE?

CALL IN

SICK ONE

DAY AND

TRAVEL TO

THE SEA

AND HOLD

HANDS ALL

DAY. CAN WE?

SHALL WE?

EAT OUR SAND-

WICHES ON THE

TRAIN. GET DRUNK

ON FRESH AIR AND

COME HOME TIRED AND NEVER TELL ANYONE …EVER

All I can say is .... yes please!

We went to the Daisy Chain Roundhay shop [in Street Lane] but they also have one in the Victoria Quarter which is where I finished off the afternoon! Harvey Nichols, Whistles, The White Company - just love it there!
